It’s a rather chill track. But IMO it’s pretty good to end a set to.

Rihanna’s vocals on this one may sound a little weird, and that’s because it’s a rather low-birate DIY acapella (which was the only acapella I could find; I’ve looked everywhere for an HQ one). You may notice the low quality of the vocal… but on large booming speakers it’s probably difficult to tell.

• Sock Rocker is a minimix series I started earlier this year and it basically is just edgy electro/house that’s full of sockrocking energy and noise (the good kind). I’ve actually finished mixing Sock Rocker! 2 but I’m just waiting for next week to release it. Release date for this will be Thursday, September 03. Expect to hear this tune, this tune, and this tune.
• Transit to Tokyo is a full CD mix filled with trance/progressive. The mix is structured to simulate a travel journey… More info on this next time. Release date is going to be September 17. So for now just chew on this promomix that’s now available through Soundcloud, and downloadable too.
  

I like putting plenty of thought into my mixes. I like progression. I like to start out mellow, build up to energy, and then spend some time cooling down. It’s kinda like an exercise workout!

What was summer’s biggest radio anthem… I Know You Want Me by Pitbull. By biggest I mean, most overplayed.

Lights Down Low is a half-hour mix of downtempo/triphop/chillout fare, combining sounds from across the spectrum to present something for your afterhour moments. A quick cheeky edit of Adagio For Strings sets the moody tone for the mix before crawling along the vast ethnic landscape of Traveller, and descending into the darker vocal territory with A Perfect Lie (featured on Nip & Tuck’s Soundtrack) and long-standing trip-hop classic that could possibly leave you feeling Numb. Topping off the journey are some rather light funky excursions by downtempo geniuses dZihan & Kamien and Ralph Myerz & Jack Band…

After their set, everyone left. And I stayed behind… and surprisingly I managed to start up a conversation with all of them. I was going to say “Hey I made this awesome mashup and maybe you’d like it”. But then the moment I said “Hey”, the dream ended. I woke up and it was 7:10 AM. Maybe it’s a sign to start producing instead of ‘making’ mashups? Hehe.

Anyway I’m currently tuned into this tune: Oasis – Wonderwall (Myon & Shane 54 Remix). Really amazing interpretation of a ‘rock classic’.

Also… it’s time to prepare Episode 35 for this week! Currently experimenting with a new format…

Running a 2-hour show every week is a large challenge! But I’m giving this show a lot of effort right now.

When I’m back in Canada, I plan to expand the show to my local uni’s radio show. And have live gigs at the on-campus bar to promote not just my music, but also the radio show.

Oh I’ve just listened to a pair of early-2000s albums from Four Tet. It is truly amazing… Go on Youtube and search for some of their material. I’m not the right guy for labelling, but I think they’re filed under indie/jazz/downtempo/electronica or something like that.

Another amazing record is Telefon Tel Aviv’s Immolate Yourself, which is truly emotional. It carries their signature sound from the first album, but brings out more of an indie kick.

Have you tried sleeping to the sound of Riceboy Sleeps? Or maybe waking up to their sound? The ambient sound really just reminds me of old photographs of me and my family in a large open field. That kind of thing…
